A Truck laden with illegally refined petroleum products allegedly extracted from riverine communities in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State has reportedly crushed a prominent Chief to death.
The victim identified as High Chief Tuedor Amos,who hailed from Furupagha, an Ijaw clan in the Local Government Area was riding on a motorcycle when he was
hit by one of the trucks carrying diesel (AGO) illegally extracted from the riverine communities in the Locao Government Area via Siluko river bank entroute Iguobazua community.
A cousin of the deceased, Chief Ben Bowei who confirmed the incident, decried the activities of illegal oil bunkerers operating along the Siluko river axis.
He said their nefarious activities have damaged the road from Siluko to Uguobazua axis which has becomes a death trap to local dwellers whose major means of transportation is the motorcycle.
His words:”For long we have been warning these guys indulging in illegal bunkery in our river to stop their activities, but they refused, now bunkery has claimed the life of a prominent chief in our clan. ”
“Activities of these bunkerers are damaging the only road rehabilitated by former Governor Oshiomhole as the diesel pour on the road while convening it to the city. The road is so slippery that people on bike have to be praying to God that for safety while traveling,” he said.
He called on security operatives to arrest those carrying out Illegal refining of petroleum products in the riverine communities in the area.
The Image Maker of Edo State Police Command, Bello Kontongs, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said he was yet to be briefed on the incident when our correspondent sought clarifications from him.
