Ahead of the Local Government elections in Rivers State, the intriques and power tussle by political gladiators in Ikwerre Local Government Area took a new dimension on Thursday as the Council Chairman, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike,
relieved the Council Secretary, Hon.Obinna Ekem of his appointment.
A terse statement issued by Chris Omodu, Media Aide to Hon. Nwanosike directed the embattled Secretary to hand over all Council property in his possession to the Chief of Staff to the Chairman.
The statement read:
“The Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Samuel Nwanosike (JP) has relieved the Secretary of the Council Hon. Obinna Ekem (of) his appointment with immediate effect, he should hand over all Council properties in his possession to the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman.”
“The Chairman thanked him for the services rendered to the Council and wish him well in his future life endeavors.”
Insider Sources in Ikwerre Local Government Area, told Themeteornewshub that Hon. Ekem’s sack might not be unconnected with the upcoming Council poll across the State which has polarized the powers that be in the area.
Hon. Nwanosike wants to run again but there are those opposed to his ambition so sacking Hon. Ekem , according to sources was a stroke to knock the steam off those opposed to his bid.
As push gradually comes to shove, it was learnt that the Chairman would deploy more aces from his sleeves to whittle down the rising opposition against him.
“More heads will definitely roll in the run up of the election because those against him are also not resting, “a source told Themeteornewshub.
Governor Nyesom Wike had given the Council Chairman a clean bill of health when he came to the Local Government Area to inaugurate some projects recently.
The Governor’s comments according to the Council Chairman’s allies, was a tacit approval for him to continue with his festering ambition.
How far the gladiators go to actualize their dreams and ambitions remain to be seen.
