A pall of fear,apprehension and gloom hung over Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday February 18,2021 after one Aleruchi Awuzuruike was allegedly hacked to death by one Chibueze Ojiriome.
The deceased according to a native of the community – one Gift Chimele- had gone to Ojiriome’s house where he accosted and accused him of allegedly stealing and killing his goat.
A heated argument was said to have ensued between the duo.
It was in the heat of the altercation that Ojiriome rushed for his machete and allegedly dealt Awuzuruike several deadly blows.
The hapless victim however, gave up the ghost in a nearby hospital.
The local vigilance group in area which is popularly known as OSPAC, immediately swung into action, disarmed the blood thirsty young man and handed him over to officers attached to the Police Division in the community.
In the meantime, a human rights activist in Rivers State, Amadi Paul Onuoha who is a native of Ubima has condemned the killing and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
