The spate of reckless killing of innocent, armless and harmless civilians by the Police, has once more come to the fore following the killing of one Jimoh Abiodun by a Police Officer attached to Elelenwo Divisional Headquarters in Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday.

Events, according to him, took a dramatic turn when a Sergeant in the Team who was ostensibly drunk, curiously insisted that they bail themselves.
“At that point,we told them we had just one thousand five hundred naira on us and suddenly two shots were fired by the Officer who insisted that we bail ourselves.”
The shots according to his account hit Abiodun.
In the ensuing confusion, the Police Officers took them in their van to some hospitals were the injured was denied medical attention.
“It was on our way to University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital that I fell off the van because of the manner the officers drove the van”,he said.
He said he sustained some injuries following the fall.
It was when he returned to the Police station on Saturday with family members and his brother’s wife -Azeezat- that they were told that Abiodun had passed on.
A distraught Azeezat who was beside herself with grief, wondered why the Police could be so callous to snuff the life out of her husband for no justifiable reason.
