Commercial and vehicular activities have been paralyzed at Omagwa community, housing the Port-Harcourt International Airport Port-harcourt in Rivers State following the killing last night of a tanker driver at a military checkpoint in the area.
It was learnt that a trigger-happy military man shot and killed the unfortunate driver at about 9 pm last night because of his refusal to part with a N200 gratification.
Piqued at the development, angry tanker and trailer drivers as well as some irate youth early Saturday morning, stormed the checkpoint and blocked the highway with their vehicles.
In the meantime, security agents at the checkpoint have scampered to safety, abandoning their duty post.
As at press time, every access into Port-Harcourt City from the Port-Harcourt International Airport, nearby Igwuruta community and the Obiri Ikwerre Axis linking the East/ West Road end have been blocked by the protesters.##
