BREAKINGNEWS: PDP picks Okowa as Atiku’s running mate

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has settled for Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

 

Atiku announced this himself via his official social media page on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

 

His tweet reads; I am delighted to announce Governor @IAOkowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done. #OneNigeria.

 

Recall, it was earlier reported that a 12-man committee-led by Chief Tom Ikimi, of the PDP was saddled with the responsibility of screening presidential nominees of the party, which was held today, Thursday, June 16, 2022, in Abuja

According to reports, the Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, was said to have been the choice of the Atiku Abubakar, against Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

 

It was said that Okowa was picked because he possessed a better intellectual bent and would bring better value to governance at the federal level if the ticket is eventually elected by Nigerians.

According to reports, the Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, was said to have been the choice of the Atiku Abubakar, against Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

 

It was said that Okowa was picked because he possessed a better intellectual bent and would bring better value to governance at the federal level if the ticket is eventually elected by Nigerians.

It was also said that some party chieftains raised concerns about the Wike’s temperament, his perceived dictatorial tendencies and his propensity for picking fights even with key allies as the key reasons why his nomination was rejected.
